The village Bindslev

It's around 1500 years since Bindslev got its name, but relics from the Iron Age indicate that there was a settlement here even earlier.
With its roots in farming, Bindslev is today an active commercial and artisans' town which has managed to keep its village character.
The many shops and workshops have everything required to provide services to the many surrounding villages and holiday homes.

Ear of the corn

Bindslev has chosen "ears of corn" as the symbol of the town to designate something that's in the process of growing. With Scandinavia's biggest accordion rally, Håndværkermuseet with its many craft exhibits, the market on Saturdays, the fish steps, the nature area around the stream and the former electricity power station at Det Gamle Elværk, Bindslev is well worth a visit.

Det Gamle Elværk

On the banks of the stream of Uggerby Å lies Bindslev Gamle Elværk which is the only water-driven direct current power station in Denmark. The plant supplied the town and the surrounding area with direct current from 1920 until 1968. There's free access to the entire area. The history and function of the plant can be studied in the machinery building.

Uggerby Å

Known for its excellent fishing waters that are home to trout and salmon. When it was decided to preserve the electricity generating plant, a set of fish steps had to be constructed at the dam. The steps were built from huge stones in 1976 and judged by experts to be one of Northern Europe's most attractive and best. When swimming up river, the fish can be seen jumping from pool to pool. The steps were primarily established for the benefit of the population of salmon and trout in Uggerby Å. Watching the water flowing through the numerous small waterfalls is a great way of relieving stress. The car park has picnic facilities with tables and benches.
